The main Show involved a few speakers and then a rock band.
The Scout Executive (the "paid guy") and the Chief volunteer spoke briefly. The AT&T "higher up" who also volunteers for Scouting spoke also (AT&T was the major sponsor of Jamboree). A video speaker was a high level army officer that is an Eagle Scout and was wounded badly in Iraq and then Afghanistan.
After the formalities a special guest showed up. A repeat from the 2010 Jamboree was Mike Row. He has been on National Geographic TV and Discovery Channel. He was the host of show called Dirty Jobs. He spoke passionately about making the right choices after high school. Whether it be a skilled trade or college.
Finally the main act. The band Three Doors Down played. Their popular song is "Superman." They played about eight songs maybe more.
It was a long hot afternoon. They moved up the time to 3-6 from 5-8 due to concerns for a weather front. See the next blog for the excitement of the afternoon.
PS - notably absent was President Obama. He did not come (he is two for two in not attending). He did not even have a video message like he did in 2010. Since Scouts are not supposed to express political views I will refrain......
