Well, hopefully by now, your Scout has all he needs to bring to the Jamboree.
Let me recap some of the questions asked at out final meeting:
Q: What are the Scouts to wear when we depart on July 12? (well, this was my statement turned into a
question).
A: Scouts MUST be in the following when we get on the bus:
1) Field Uniform ("Class A" beige)
2) Activity uniform (Official Blue Troop A226 t-shirt - wear underneath Class A)
3) Official BSA shorts/convertible pants
4) Blue Troop Jamboree ballcap (in daypack at the very least)
5) Comfortable shoes for walking - we hit Washington and start walking right away - we will
NOT have time to sort through duffels bags when we land.
Q: Do we need to pack a breakfast for July 12?
A: Probably. First provided meal will be lunch after a museum tour. Nothing more than drinks and maybe
a itty bitty bag of a snack will be on the plane. Please AVOID peanut and tree nut ingredients if you
pack up a breakfast (due to allergies)
Q: What are the Box lunch options while in Washington DC?
A: Each Troop will get five (5) vegetarian options for lunch on Friday and Monday. Otherwise, the menu
for Friday lunch is ham/cheese and Monday is turkey/cheese.
Q: Mess Kits - What is needed?
A: Entire mess kit - utensils, cup, plate, bowl.
Q: Do they need a dry bag if rafting?
A: If they bring items needing to stay dry - yes. They have them at Academy Sports. We highly encourage
scouts NOT to being items of value on the rafting trip.
Q: What type of rain gear if ponchos are not recommended?
A: Rain coat or full rain suit. The brand of "Frogg Toggs" was mentioned - they are available at Academy
and other outdoor stores. Avoid ponchos, avoid simple 'plastic' material.
Q: Do Scouts need official BSA shorts or convertible (zip offs) pants?
Y: Yes. It has always been the expectation that at least one pair of shorts or convertible (zip offs) would be
official BSA. For second and third pairs - non-BSA are fine but remember we are attending a Scouting
event.
Q: For rafting, is a plain/no-logo quick dry shirt OK even if NOT official BSA?
A: Yes. Please, as noted in the question, no logos on the shirt.
Q: What are these 'name' tags with the plastic ties on them?
A: These are luggage tags. Each Scout received two - put one on their duffel and a second on their day
pack. These will be important - if they leave their bag somewhere, it is visible identification to track
them down.
Q: What are options to help my Scout manage his money?
A: Talk to Mr. C one of the ASMs.
Q: Remind us where (and when) we are meeting to depart on the 12th?
A: Sugar Land City Hall on Towne Square, backside of the hall. Time - 2:30 AM - SHARP.
This probably does not cover all the Q&A that was covered. If you have last minute questions, please let me know via email.
