When storms roll in there are a series of alerts that take place. Text messaging is one way.
Another alert has been nicknamed the "Big Voice in the Sky." A "Siri" type voice comes on the speaker system announcing lightning or other weather events. There is also a deep male voice to mix things up.
It started around 11 am with a lighting alert. Many areas close so that pushes scouts out into common areas that get packed.
The first series of storms missed us and it was interesting watching them rolling across the horizon.
Right after lunch time we got smacked dead on. The way our campsite sits we can see the direction most of the storms roll in.
There were not many scouts in the campsite at the time. We watched it roll in mainly by watching the wall of rain coming up the valley towards us. We literally could count down to the second when it would hit.
It rained pretty hard but the storm blew through quickly. No damage to any tents but some clothing got wet ( as leaders we can only remind them so much about closing tent flaps completely - sometimes getting wet helps a scout learn.
