Countdown to Jamboree

Jambo arrival and set up

We made it to SBR (Summit Bechtel Reserve)!

Well, the challenges of a bus convoy are many. With eight buses going up and down the hills (maybe Mountains?) it takes its toll on the bus. We did not break down but we stopped more than a couple times for slower buses to catch up.

No biggie though. The line of buses to get in was long. It moved pretty well considering the Jamboree was expecting 1,000 buses today.

We got in later than expected but it went well. The Scouts took some time to get the site set up but they came together after a few hiccups.

We had lunch immediately followed by dinner - literally. Actually, while in the line of buses the leaders hopped out and got the boxed lunches out to eat. We dined as we got an orientation about The Summit and Jamboree.

So back to the original comment. We also got a "shelf stable lunch" from the Jamboree. We got so wrapped up in setting up camp no one missed it. When we got ready for dinner those lunches got opened up. Scouts were hungry so it was an appetizer.

For our real dinner we had mashed potatoes, chicken and corn on the Cobb, with a Rice Krispie treat for dessert.

Scouts are not used to the "warming pan" cooking method. All the food kist needs to be warmed up. Scoutmaster Vince's food industry management experience provided the scouts with great information to help their experience.

After dinner Dakota and Scoutmaster Jon had the pleasure of attending a leader meeting (went way too long!). The other scouts walked around some to just check things out or patch trade.

Tuesday is the opening Arena Show and then free time after that. This place is very spread out - we will get a lot of miles on our boots. The Scouts can use Tuesday to get an idea of just how big. (PS- we follow the buddy system and the Security folks told us tonight that solo scouts or scouts without IDs will be stopped and sent back their campsites.

Time to turn in. Another early day Tuesday. In general we will get the scouts up at 6 or 6:30 am daily to get moving.

Good evening to all.

Scoutmaster Jon.
